Description:
This system is based upon standard Jetline seamwelder technology with some unique features to aid in the high volume production welding of stainless steel liners for the inside walls of refrigerated shipping containers.
The stainless steel wall is produced by welding a series of approximately 2 ft (600 mm) wide sheets which have "dimples" formed into them to reinforce the sheet. Splicing of the sheets continues until the required 20 ft (6 m) or 40 ft (12 m) wall length has been achieved. The sheets are conveyor fed to the seamwelder and, to permit the dimples to pass through the seamwelder, the tabletop is hydraulically elevated between welds.
To ensure that the seam is on the exact centerline of the system for welding, two hydraulic centering devices are supplied. When activated, they move until their front edge is on the centerline. The sheet is now inserted from the other side and moved forward until it is in contact with the centering devises. The fingers on that side of the seamwelder are clamped, the centering devices retract back and below the pass height of the system, the second sheet can now be loaded, brought into contact with the first, and clamped.
Due to the width of the seamwelder and the fact that the sheet is thin, typically less that 0.015" (0.4 mm) thick, two operators are employed to ensure that each end of the sheet has no gap prior to welding. Two foot controls are inter-linked to ensure that each operator is satisfied before clamping takes place.
The 9500 system controller is used to control the welding process. Accurate welding parameters are critical to the final weld quality, closed loop control provides the required accuracy and consistency. The system controller is used to control welding current, arc length and weld travel speed and weld length.
