9500 CONTROLLED WELD HEAD LOCATOR SYSTEM

Application:

Precision circumferential plasma keyhole welding.

Process:

The system can be used to control any arc welding process.

Capacity:

Standard elevation is 72" (1,825 mm).
Standard boom reach is 72" (1,825 mm).
Can carry up to 400 lbs (180 kg)

Description:

The weld head locator is illustrated with a king pin base and is fitted with a complete set of plasma welding equipment.

The weld head locator is used to hold a welding head and to permit the head to be located at various points over the weld area. The head is mounted on the end of a boom that can be lifted and lowered; the boom can also be extended out to reach over the part to be welded.

This weld head locator features machined ways with hardened and ground roundway tracks. This means that any of the movements, either elevation or reach, can be used as a precision travel axis.

Elevation is powered using a variable speed DC motor driving a leadscrew. Safety facilities are provided to ensure operator safety and prevent a rapid vertical descent of the boom. Boom reach is manual with a locking screw but can be powered using rack and pinion drive if required.

The precision design of the weld head locator makes it an ideal tool for use with TIG and plasma welding operations; its weight carrying capacity makes it also suitable for use in MIG and submerged arc applications.

The 9500 System Controller provides precise, consistent control of the weld process. The 9500 system controls the output of the plasma welding power supply, the arc length, the wire feed speed and the plasma gas flow. Control of the gas flow allows programs to be written with the ability to "slope-out" the gas flow in synchronization with the other welding parameters to eliminate the keyhole at the end of the weld.
