Application:
Joining of strip for continuous processes.
Process:
The system is used primarily with the TIG welding process and can also be used with plasma welding.
Capacity:
Strip widths up to 6" (150 mm)
Strip thickness up to 1/16" (1.6 mm)
(Other width capacities are available)
Description:
When strip is being fed from a coil to feed a continuous manufacturing purpose, it is often necessary to join the end of an old coil to the start of a new coil to maintain the feed through the manufacturing equipment. In many instances, the weld must be perfect because it must be fed through expensive tooling. A protruding weld crown can damage the tooling and must therefore be avoided.
The Jetline coil splicer with planisher is ideal for this purpose. The system consists of a small longitudinal seamwelder, a matching shear and a roll planisher. The whole system is mounted on a portable cart; this permits it to be moved in and out of the strip line. The cart carries the welding power supply.
In operation, the system is positioned in the strip line; the first operation is the shearing of the end of the old strip. After shearing, this strip is located in the seamwelder and clamped. The leading edge of the new coil is sheared and then, after being aligned and butted up to the trailing edge, is clamped into position. Welding can now take place. After welding, the strip is positioned in the throat of the planisher, which then is closed. The planishing rolls move over the strip and flatten the weld seam. When this operation is complete, the coil splicer can be moved away from the strip line to allow the manufacturing operation to continue.
