Use:
Butt welding of cylinders
Material:
Stainless Steel
Process:
DC GTAW (TIG) Tungsten Inert Gas Welding
Capacity: 5,000 lbs. (2,250 kg) part weight (capacities up to 20,000 lbs. (9,000 kg) available to order.)
48" part length (fixtures available with lengths up to 240" (6,000 mm).
60" maximum diameter, (additional height fixtures available on request).
Description: This CW5-48 fixture is designed for the welding of up to 0.080" (2 mm) thick stainless steel cylinders. The headstock, which is supplied with a control for variable speed rotation, carries an expanding type tool. This tool is designed to "round-up" the cylinder to ensure that the abutting edges are correctly aligned. It employs copper backup with gas backing facilities to provide chilling and a flow of inert gas to the underside of the weld.
The tailstock rolls along the lathe bed and can be locked in any position. It carries a faceplate which is fitted with tooling to locate and centralize to the dished head on the part being welded. The tailstock is air-operated to hold the parts together during the welding operation and to compensate for any weld shrinkage.
The welding head is carried on the carriage that rides on the track mounted behind the fixture. It can be located at any point along the length of the fixture.
Applications:
The CW5 can also be used for the following applications:
Water tanks
Chemical storage vessels
Nuclear waste containers
Liquid fuel tanks for rockets
Aero-engine components
