Description:
This system is based upon standard Jetline seam welder technology with some unique features to aid in the high volume production welding of stainless steel liners for the inside walls of refrigerated shipping containers.
The stainless steel wall is produced by welding a series of approximately 2 ft (600 mm) wide sheets which have "dimples" formed into them to reinforce the sheet. Splicing of the sheets continues until the required 20 ft (6 m) or 40 ft (12 m) wall length has been achieved. The sheets are conveyor fed to the seam welder and to permit the dimples to pass through the seam welder, the tabletop is hydraulically elevated between welds.
To ensure that the seam is on the exact centerline of the system for welding, two hydraulic centering devices are supplied. When activated, they move until their front edge is on the centerline. The sheet is now inserted from the other side and moved forward until it is in contact with the centering devises. The fingers on that side of the seam welder are clamped, the centering devices retract back and below the pass height of the system, the second sheet can now be loaded, brought into contact with the first, and clamped.
Due to the width of the seam welder and the fact that the sheet is thin, typically less that 0.015" (0.4 mm) thick, two operators are employed to ensure that each end of the sheet has no gap prior to welding. Two foot controls are inter-linked to ensure that each operator is satisfied before clamping takes place.
A Jetline 9500 system controller, using closed loop
control for accuracy, controls the welding procedure.
