Small Diameter Tube Planisher

Application:

Flattening and smoothing of the weld bead on long, small diameter, this tubes.

Process:

The system is ideal for the planishing of TIG and plasma welds.

Capacity:

Up to 1/16" (1.6 mm) thick material
Planishing lengths up to 144" (3,650 mm)

Description:

For the production of flexible joints, it is necessary to produce long tubes with a relatively small diameter. Because these tubes will be subsequently formed into a flexible joint, or bellows, the weld is critical. Not only must the weld be of high integrity, it must also not exhibit any protruding beads that could damage the forming equipment.

In the past, it has been difficult to achieve the desired quality and Jetline have therefore used their expertise in weld planishing to create a solution for this type of application. The resulting product is illustrated here.

The system consists of a conventional, air-operated upper planishing wheel. The lower wheel (normally used on a planisher) is replaced by a block that carries two pairs of hardened and ground wheels, the wheels make contact with the underside of the tube being planished.

A planishing cartridge is supplied, this attaches to a support bar which is the greater than the length of the tube being planished. The cartridge has three planishing wheels, the one in the center is opposite the upper planishing roll, the two outer ones are opposite the lower planishing wheels. The tube is manually inserted over this cartridge for its full length and then the upper planishing wheel is lowered. This wheel then rotates and, as it does so, it pulls the tube off the cartridge mandrel and past the planishing wheels.

This system shows how planishing can be applied to unusual applications. Contact Jetline for a solution to your planishing need.
