Special Purge Style Chamber

Application:

Welding of parts in an inert atmosphere, i.e. titanium and zirconium parts for aerospace and nuclear applications.

Process:

The system is used primarily with the TIG welding process.

Capacity:

Unit illustrated has a special rectangular-shaped tabletop, riser and dome.
Standard units are available up to 72" x 72" (1,800 x 1,800 mm).

Description:

In many instances, it is desirable to weld parts made of titanium or other refractory materials in a chamber where an inert gas atmosphere can be created and maintained.

Jetline purge-style welding chambers are designed to provide a suitable atmosphere in an enclosure that is made of rigid Plexiglas® where visibility is perfect for the operator. A rigid Plexiglas® dome is considerably more durable than a flexible dome and can be re-polished whenever necessary.

In the illustration, the chamber is equipped with a riser section. This increases the working height of the chamber. The rigid Plexiglas dome and riser assembly is mounted on a counterbalanced hinge to permit it to be easily opened and closed for the loading and unloading of parts. The riser is fitted with gloves with flexible sleeves, these permit the operator to have access to the parts inside the chamber from any point on the outside.

The Blanchard ground table supports the parts and provides a perfect seal when the dome is closed. An equipment well provides feed-throughs for the welding torch and ancillary equipment.

To avoid a constant loss of the Argon atmosphere each time the dome is opened, the riser is fitted with an entry vestibule. Parts can be introduced to the chamber through this vestibule, which is small enough to be easily purged with gas.

The system is supplied complete with all the necessary gas control equipment; gas-monitoring controls can be provided to ensure the purity of the gas.
