Description:

The system shown is based upon a standard LWP-36 seamwelder and has standard clamping fingers with continuous hold down strips. It is also fitted with a standard precision track and carriage system. The carriage supports and moves the TIG welding torch.

The unique feature of this machine is the special mandrel system. The parts to be welded are of a small diameter relative to their length. This necessitates the use of a small mandrel. Under normal clamping loads, the mandrel would deflect an excessive amount. To avoid this deflection, a series of mandrel supports are located beneath the mandrel. When they are deployed into the upright position, they provide support for the whole length of the mandrel. They can be lowered to permit the part to be loaded and unloaded.
