Description:

The side beam track that is illustrated is used to carry a submerged arc welding head on a cantilevered boom.

The TKHV style side beam track is manufactured from a rigid, box-section beam that has been stress-relieved prior to precision machining. Casehardened vee-ways are mounted on then track. The carriage has vee-way wheels that ride on these tracks to provide accurate, smooth travel of the carriage. Linear accuracy of the track is held to +0.015" (0.4 mm) for every 10 ft (3 m) of travel length.

The carriage is powered by a variable speed DC motor. This rotates a pinion gear that is in contact with a precision rack mounted on the track. Carriages are available with various travel speeds to suit different welding applications.

The track and carriage system is supplied with the latest in Jetline’s range of motor controls. This is the 9627 linear drive control. This control utilizes an Intel® 80C196KC microprocessor and custom-written software routines to control all the functions necessary for linear welding. Closed loop speed control is an available option. The system is user-friendly and provides repeatable travel conditions.

This type of track and carriage system is ideal for use over a set of turning rolls and, in this case, will provide linear as well as circumferential welding capabilities. Standard support columns provide a fixed working height. Powered elevation columns provide the ability to lift and lower the whole track.
