TKX Precision Linear Track and Carriage

Application:

Precision linear travel

Process:

The system can be used to carry any welding process.

Capacity:

Manufactured in travel lengths up to 240" (6 m) long.

Description:

The side beam track that is illustrated is mounted on a longitudinal seamwelder. This is only one of the applications for which the track can be used.

The TKX style side beam track is manufactured from a rigid, box-section beam that has been stress-relieved prior to precision machining. Two casehardened roundways are utilized as the main part of the track; the carriage has cluster bearings that ride on these roundways. Linear accuracy of the track is held to +0.005" (0.1 mm) for every 10 ft (3 m) of travel length.

In addition to the dimensional accuracy of the track, the drive system is designed to provide smooth, accurate movement of the travel carriage. This is achieved by the use of a linear drive. The linear drive consists of a hardened and ground shaft that is rotated by the drive motor. The carriage is connected to this drive shaft through a special bearing block in which the bearings are set at an angle to the axis of the shaft. As the shaft rotates, it imparts a linear motion to the carriage. This type of drive is not only accurate, but is also backlash-free.

The track and carriage system is supplied with the latest in Jetline’s range of motor controls. This is the 9627 linear drive control. This control utilizes an Intel® 80C196KC microprocessor and custom-written software routines to control all the functions necessary for linear welding. Closed loop speed control is an available option, the system is user-friendly and provides repeatable travel conditions.
